Description
The military is seeking to measure, quantify, and understand cyberspace. The Plan X definition of a cyber battlespace has three main concepts: 1) network map, 2) operational units, and 3) capability set. The Plan X program seeks to build an end-to-end system that enables the military to understand, plan, and manage cyberwarfare in real-time, large-scale, and dynamic network environments. Specifically, the Plan X program seeks to integrate the cyber battlespace concepts of the network map, operational unit, and capability set in the planning, execution, and measurement phases of military cyber operations. To achieve this goal, the Plan X system will be developed as open platform architecture for integration with government and industry technologies. Apogee Research propose Red OCRE, an Open Cyber Runtime Environment (OCRE) and Cyber Software Stack (CyberStack)operating system, which provides assured performance and execution control of Plan X's large-scale cyberwarfare plans, via the principled use and support of stochastic optimal control and reliable/secure services in a distributed computing framework.
