- Statement of Work The Cochran Fellowship Program's Eastern Europe and Eurasia Region is requesting the design and delivery of a training program for (5) Fellows from Georgia: (1) chairman, agricultural cooperative development agency, Ministry of Agriculture, (1) chief specialist, information consulting center, Khashuri District and (3) agricultural cooperative managers. An interpreter will accompany the five Fellows. The program should be designed to help fellows better understand the U.S. cooperatives system, types of coops and advantages for farmers. The Government of Georgia is encouraging farmers to set up cooperatives providing legislative incentives and benefits. It is especially important for medium and small producers. The Fellows are interested in the fundamentals of establishing agricultural cooperatives, cooperative development and practical benefits for small farmers. Topics should include: cooperative management, types of cooperatives, role of coops in marketing and promotion strategies, supplies procurement, and Government support to coops. This training program will introduce the cooperative specialists to U.S. cooperative management, modern big and small working coops, and the design and implementation of policies and regulations for cooperatives. The program objective is to assist with the development of a cooperative promotion strategy which will allow the Fellows to access domestic and international food markets. The goal of this activity is to assist Georgia develop a modern agricultural cooperative system, therefore enhancing agricultural sustainability and trade linkages.
