Description
The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) Traffic Alert and Collision Avoidance System (TCAS) Program Office (PO) is developing the Next Generation Airborne Collision Avoidance System, ACAS X. This new system will employ plug-and-play surveillance capabilities and advanced threat resolution logic that can perform the functions of today ™s TCAS II, exceed current performance, and can be easily modified to be compatible with evolving future airspace and procedures. ACAS X is comprised of a modular family of collision avoidance applications for use in NextGen airspace. Several variants are under active development; this market survey focuses on the two specific ACAS X applications scheduled for initial implementation: ACAS Xa, the direct replacement for TCAS II offering the benefits of the new architecture while utilizing the same advisory, display set, and coordination; and ACAS Xo, which provides operation-specific alerts for designated aircraft while maintaining global alerting against all other aircraft. With this market survey, we request information in support of the planned Operational Evaluation (OpEval) for ACAS Xa/Xo. OpEval is a critical stage of system development, best understood as bridging the gap between developmental testing and operational use in the National Airspace System (NAS). It represents the first exposure of a system to a broad range of environments not well-represented in constrained developmental testing activities and to pilots and operators without prior exposure to the system. With this market survey we request information regarding your company, products, and services pertinent to the planned OpEval.
