Description
Working with Sandia Brochure Background Information: Sandia National Laboratories (SNL) has developed a resonant shear-horizontal surface acoustic wave biosensor for monitoring biological capture events. The sensor is comprised of 6 identical channels operating at 400 MHz. The sensor operates as either a one-port or two-port configuration. The one-port sensor offers slightly higher Q (~1000) than its counterpart. Passivation of the sensor was achieved using a thin layer of silicon dioxide (SiO2). The silicon dioxide film is compatible with a variety of surface attachment chemistries such as organosilane and self-assembled monolayers. The acoustic cavity (i.e. active area) of the sensor is 0.1 mm2 with low cross-talk between sensing elements. A sensitivity of 625 cm2/gm and detection limit of 0.1 pg have been demonstrated. The technology is described further in US Patent Application No., submitted on August 17, 2015 for "SHEAR HORIZONTAL SURFACE ACOUSTIC WAVE (SH-SAW) RESONATORS AND ARRAYS THEREOF" Technology Highlights: - Capable of performing environmental detection and medical diagnostics - Detects a wide range of microbes and biological agents: proteins, toxins, bacteria, spores, viral particles - Target <10 cells/ml sensitivity for anthrax simulant; demonstrated <100 cells/ml - Detection limit <10 spores/ml; 120 pg/cm2 protein. - HIV, Herpes, Coxsackie and Hanta virus detection with complex viral backgrounds - PDA controller, battery powered, runtime > 20 hours - Point of Care (POC) diagnosis Opportunity Description: SNL is seeking partners to further develop and commercialize a high-frequency, shear-horizontal surface acoustic wave (Love wave) sensor that employs an acoustic cavity to store mechanical energy. Cooperative Research and Development Agreements (CRADAs) and Licensing Agreements are available. Sandia invites interested parties to provide a detailed description of relevant background, experience, expertise, and capabilities that could be brought into a collaborative partnership with Sandia. Specific requirements are as follows: Mandatory Requirements: 1) U.S. companies able to enter into a CRADA agreement with Sandia National Laboratories, which requires in-kind contribution in the form of laboratory staff and instrumentation 2) U.S. companies capable of providing a minimum of $500K funds-in 3) Demonstrated experience in bringing products to market Desired Requirements: 1) Demonstrated experience, expertise, and capabilities in the design, development and manufacturing of medical equipment 2) Demonstrated successful partnering and teaming relationships with R&D organizations In addition to evaluating the provided information as outlined above, Sandia will evaluate all responses and select prospective parties with which to engage in further discussions based on the following criteria, pursuant to Sandia's technology transfer mission: 1) How will the respondent deploy the technology for the benefit of the U.S. public good? 2) How will the respondent's deployment of the technology benefit U.S. economic competitiveness? Sandia is a multi-program laboratory operated by Sandia Corporation, a wholly owned subsidiary of Lockheed Martin Corporation, for the United States Department of Energy's National Nuclear Security Administration under Contract DE-AC04-94AL85000.
