- Specifications Template Plate and Frame Heat Exchange System Statement of Required Goods/Deliverables (As applicable) Packaged P&F Steam to Water HX (Domestic HW ) : ( Designed to heat 30 gpm water from 40 F to 140 F using 30# steam via single electric-operated temperature control valve - 1650 #/hr; served by F&T steam trap) The heat transfer unit shall be completely factory fabricated, consisting of a bolted plate & frame heat exchanger w/ recirculation pump, combination pump/trap module for complete condensate removal, temperature control valve assembly and bypass piping, safety relief valve(s), strainer(s), temperature and pressure gauges, and all interconnecting steam and hot water piping contained in an angle iron frame. Entire package shall be factory painted with high-grade machinery enamel. Heater will deliver a constant outlet temperature of +/- 2 deg.F under stable load conditions. Heater will provide outlet temperatures within +/- 8 deg.F set point when subject to sudden changes in demand. Buffer tank or mixing valve shall be provided to meet large swings in demand loads. Packaged system shall be designed, manufactured and stamped in accordance with ASME Section VIII on the primary and secondary side for 150 psig @ 350 deg.F. Packaged unit shall not exceed 72"L x 36"W x 72"H. Basis of Design shall be Spirax Sarco Model # HXHD-30-30P-SS-D-245 or equal by approved manufacturers. Components of the packaged HX unit shall be as follows: Plate & Frame Heat Exchanger: The heat exchanger shall be the bolted plate and frame type so the unit can be serviced without having to disturb any connections on the steam or waterside. Heat exchanger shall have the capacity to be expanded by the addition of plates without removal of the heater from its installed position. All heat transfer surfaces in contact with heating water shall be 316L stainless steel. Copper or non-metallic liners shall not be acceptable. Steam piping on the package shall be schedule 40 carbon steel. Each heater shall have an integrally mounted stainless steel recirculation pump to maintain continuous flow through the heat exchanger. Recirculation pump shall be stainless steel and wired to NEMA 1 control box. Condensate Removal Piping / Assembly: shall consist of Y strainer w/ blowdown, F&T steam trap, and check valve. F&T steam trap shall comply with ASTM A126, cast iron body and bolted cover, with replaceable stainless steel float, lever and valve assembly. Thermostatic air vent shall be balanced pressure, stainless steel or bronze bellows with stainless steel valve and seat. Float and thermostatic trap shall not be installed in a manner to lift condensate up to a return line. F & T trap shall be Spirax/Sarco 2" FTB-175 or equal by approved manufacturers. Steam Control Valve Piping / Assembly: Temperature control valves shall be two port ductile iron single seat globe style conforming to ANSI/ASTM standards. Valve shall be electrically actuated to provide modulating flow control and capable of accepting a 4-20mA signal. Control Valve assembly shall consist of (1) appropriately sized control valve, with (2) isolation valves, (1) strainer w/ blowdown valve, upstream & downstream pressure gauges and associated unions and/or flanges as required to permit removal of components. Control valve shall be Spirax Sarco 2" LEA33 w/ electric actuator or equal by approved manufacturers. High Temperature Safety: An aquastat installed in the waterside piping shall activate the stn. stl piston valve to shut off steam supply for overheat protection. Frame and Inter-connecting Piping: The frame shall be heavy duty carbon steel channel and angle iron construction. The frame material shall be ASTM A36 structural steel. The inter-connecting piping shall be all ferrous schedule 40 steel for steam piping, and schedule 80 steel for condensate piping. Heat exchanger shall be secured to the frame. Piping shall be arranged to permit easy removal and servicing of heat exchanger plates.
