Description

This solicitation is a "REQUEST FOR INFORMATION (RFI)" only for the proposed contract action stated below. This Sources Sought Notice is not a request for formal proposals or quotes. It is neither a solicitation announcement nor a request for proposals or quotes and does not obligate the Government to award a contract. Background Information The Department of Veterans Affairs Medical Center, Boise ID (VAMC) is the home of VISN 20's Optical Fabrication Lab (OFL), which manufactures in excess of 150,000 pairs of eyeglasses per year for eligible beneficiaries. The OFL is a full-service facility that sources individual eyeglass components, and then grinds the lenses and assembles them into frames in-house. The OFL currently manufactures eyeglasses for 51 Department of Veteran Affairs medical facilities and their outside clinics throughout the United States and its territories. Many of these locations have a setup very similar to a commercial eyeglass retailer, complete with display racks from which veteran beneficiaries can browse, try-on, and select from available styles. The government is in the preliminary phases of developing requirements for two sets of contracts, one each for eyeglass frames and lenses. The information received in response to this RFI may be used to help formulate the government's overall contracting strategy for these potential contracts. NAICS Code 339115, Ophthalmic Goods Manufacturing, with a size standard of 500 employees, has been identified as the NAICS code most likely to apply to this procurement. Requested Information The government is specifically interested in answers to the following questions regarding potential contractor capabilities: 1.Is your company registered in the System for Award Management (SAM), and what is your DUNS? 2.What is your business's size and socioeconomic status (VOSB, SDVOSB, woman-owned, etc.)? 3.Are you a manufacturer or reseller of eyeglass frames and/or lenses? 4.Where are the frames or lenses you provide manufactured (domestically or internationally)? 5.What are your company's order handling capabilities to process daily orders (or more frequent)? 6.What is your company's typical lead time for order delivery? 7.What quality control standards does your company employ to ensure only high quality products are delivered? 8.Could you please provide product literature that describes the assortment of products you sell (catalogs, etc.)? Please feel free to provide any other information you feel may be pertinent to developing a strategy for a future contract.
