Description
The United States Geological Survey, Alaska Science Center, has a requirement for a 2 inch light-weight, portable, high speed ice core drill to install 15 meter boreholes in glacier accumulation zones. Alaska Science Center intends to make a non-competitive award to Icedrill.CH AG, SCHUETZENGASSE 172, BIEL/BIENNE, BE, 2502, SWITZERLAND. USGS needs a core drill that extracts snow and firn cores non-destructively (without damage), preserving the stratigraphy. This capability is necessary to validate, ground-truth and improve radar-based mass balance assessments and accurately determine the time-evolution of firn fields, which has been shown to be a primary error in understanding glacier and ice sheet volume change on the global scale. The core drill needs to be light weight, and easily portable, as it will be carried from site to site, by hand for several miles. The drill needs to be powered by non-hazardous means (no gasoline or lithium batteries), such that it may be easily transported to field sites by small aircraft. The USGS team is performing an intensive survey at Wolverine Glacier this year. The need by date for the ice drill is late March 2016. The Government intends to award this requirement noncompetitively in accordance with FAR 13.106-1(b)(1) and the procedures of FAR Part 12, entitled, "Acquisition of Commercial Items." Other interested concerns having the ability to furnish these services shall submit a capabilities statement to the Contract Specialist no later than the closing date (January 15, 2016) of this announcement. Capability statements will be evaluated solely to determine if competitive opportunities exist; quotations are not solicited at this time. All responses must be in writing by email to the Contract Specialist, Cheryl Ciccarelli at cciccarelli@usgs.gov. NAICS 332999 All Other Miscellaneous Fabricated Metal Product Manufacturing
