Description
The FHWA’s NDE program is seeking input from institutions/organizations interested in participating in the development of an automated bridge deck scanner. The automated scanner will ensure a precise, efficient and economic data collection on concrete bridge decks. The successful institute, with a multidisciplinary environment, shall provide technical staff with the required expertise to develop an autonomous bridge deck scanner system in an efficient and innovative manner. The research staff should be composed of physicist, geophysicist, electrical engineers, civil engineers, mechanical and environmental engineers to be able to successfully perform this project. For this purpose, there should be collaboration and cooperation between areas of infrastructure, materials and analytical research sciences. The institute should have expertise and experience in a wide range of research and application of non-destructive testing methods, developing automated platforms, initiating new NDE tools including ultrasonic and acoustic equipment, and leading research in data fusion and advanced data analysis.
