- The U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) intends to award a sole source purchase order to Electric Power Research Institute (EPRI) (1300 W WT Harris Blvd. Charlotte, NC 28262) for a 3 year membership to their EPRI Human Reliability Analysis/ Probabilistic Risk Assessment (HRA/PRA) Tool User Group, which will give the NRC access to EPRI's HRA Calculator Software. All of the NRC commercial nuclear power licensees are currently EPRI HRA User Group members and either using or transitioning to use this software. The NRC's Level 3 probabilistic risk assessment (PRA) project collaborates with the Vogtle station for plant specific analyses, the project's approach is to utilize Vogtle's existing analysis as much as possible. The EPRI HRA Calculator is the only software able to read the Vogtle Station's data files generated by using the EPRI HRA, and this software will significantly reduce NRC staffs' effort in understanding Vogtle's HRA analysis to meet the tight deliverable schedule of the Level 3 PRA project. EPRI does not allow any other sources to sell its EPRI HRA Calculator (verified on January 14, 2016); therefore the agency's minimum needs can only be satisfied by EPRI.
