SPECIFIED REQUIREMENT: Network Contracting Office 7, Charleston, SC is seeking sources for a potential contractor to supply the following item: ITEM NO. DESCRIPTION QUANTITY UNIT 1. 2325-0405 ROTOR-ROD SYSTEM- MICE SYSTEM INCLUDES: CONTROL SOFTWARE, TEST STATION WITH MOUSE RUNNING ROD, AND ALL REQUIRED CABLES AND CONECTORS. 1 EA 2. 2025-0003 CONFIGURED COMPUTER LAPTOP HIGH PERFORMANCE LAPTOP PC WITH SAN DIEGO INSTRUMENTS' APPLICATION SOFTWARE AND USB DRIVERS INSTALLED AND FULL SYSTEM TEST 1 EA STATEMENT OF WORK Purchase of ROTOR-ROD system Clinical Utility - A key step in assessment of brain damage after experimental traumatic brain injury in mice involves the measurement of brain-controlled motor function and coordination. The ROTOR-ROD locomotor coordination system measures motor function, motor learning coordination and equilibrium in mice. - The ROTOR-ROD system is required to conduct the VA-funded studies investigating the mechanisms of traumatic brain injury in mice. The vendor must be able to supply instrumentation to meet the following specifications: a.The system uses "Fear of Falling "motivation via sufficient falling distances to induce this motivator. No other motivator to stay on the rod is used. b.Completely enclosed test environment to prevent subject escapes. c.User definable rod speed ramps via software. User can define acceleration, constant speed and deceleration steps within a single rod speed ramp. The San Diego Instruments Rotor-Rod is the only system with deceleration capability. d.System can provide a stair step style acceleration ramp. e.One of four lanes can be used for testing. All lanes are not required to run a test. f.Auto stop feature occurs when either the maximum test time is reached (set by user) or when all animals have fallen from the rod. g.Seven photo beams per lane used to assure that the animals fall will be recorded. h.Photobeams are placed below the rod assuring that the animal is only recorded when actually falling. This feature eliminates the possibility of recording a false fall when the animal hands onto the rod and makes a complete revolution as can happen in other units with beams above the rod. i.Rod lock feature to facilitate ease of loading animals on to the rod. j.Operates through a serial port, thus no special interface cards are required. The system is equipped with a laptop.
