- Description
- Background Information: Sandia National Laboratories (SNL) has developed a nanoporous carbon sorbent coating for a surface acoustic wave detector for use in the detection of volatile organic chemicals. Specifically, this coating is very useful in the detection of trihalomethane chemicals such as chloroform. These chemicals are a typical byproduct of the chemical treatment of water and the level of contamination in public water supplies is regulated by the EPA. The technology is described further in US Patent Application: •U.S. Patent Application for 14/737,200, filed on June 11, 2015 for "Nanoporous-carbon-coated Surface Acoustic Wave Sensor" Technology Highlights: -Low cost -Very low limits for trihalomethane detection -Fast response time for measurements -Consistent over a range of temperatures Potential Applications: -Water quality measurements Opportunity Description: SNL is seeking partners to further develop and commercialize the surface acoustic wave sensor with nanoporous coating through Licensing Agreements. Sandia invites interested parties to provide a detailed description of relevant background, experience, expertise, and capabilities that could help commercialize the technology. Specific requirements are as follows: Mandatory Requirements: 1)U.S. companies able to enter into a licensing agreement with Sandia National Laboratories and have manufacturing capabilities 2)Demonstrated experience, expertise, and capabilities in the design, development and manufacturing of water contaminant detection devices 3)Demonstrated experience in bringing water quality products to market In addition to evaluating the provided information as outlined above, Sandia will evaluate all responses and select prospective parties with which to engage in further discussions based on the following criteria, pursuant to Sandia's technology transfer mission: 1)How will the respondent's deploy the technology for the benefit of the U.S. public good? 2)How will the respondent's deployment of the technology benefit U.S. economic competitiveness? Sandia is a multi-program laboratory operated by Sandia Corporation, a wholly owned subsidiary of Lockheed Martin Corporation, for the United States Department of Energy's National Nuclear Security Administration under Contract DE-AC04-94AL85000.
