Description
The purpose of modification 0002 is to provide the following question and response: Q1. For the loop rate you mentioned, 1/latency between Aout and Ain, Aout is 700ns, Ain is 2.7us, leading to 3.4us (100ns more than what they ask for without the PI calculation that will probably take a 50-100ns). Please confirm that this oversight is acceptable AND that NIST requires a AIN to AOUT? R1. The NIST application is high-speed closed-loop control. This is why the requirement for the maximum loop rate is specified rather than the latencies of each of the components in the loop. The loop rate specifications (>150 kHz for processor, >300 kHz for the FPGA) define how fast NIST is able to run the controller. The A/D, processor, and D/A are all part of the loop and each component must be included in the latency. The D/A has latency and settling time. The settling time is not the best specification since the voltage gets close to the desired value well before the settling time is reached, it won't be the exact desired value. Therefore, you do not have to include settling time of the D/A in your calculation but must include any other latency in the D/A.
