- Description
- MWT_RFI_15AUG16 The US Army, Product Director, Army Watercraft Systems (PdD AWS) intends to procure the Modular Warping Tug (MWT). The purpose of this project is to determine industry's capability of reproducing and improving the existing MWT, which was last procured in 2006, to meet force structure requirements. This Request for Information (RFI) is intended to gather industry input and data in support of potential future acquisition efforts. PdD AWS manages all ship-to-shore enablers to include the Modular Causeway System (MCS). The MCS enables the discharge of strategic sealift ships when suitable ports are unavailable. These causeway systems can discharge ships at anchor or insert unit equipment onto badly degraded ports or bare beaches. Causeway systems enable Joint and Army forces to load, transload, and offload equipment, personnel, and sustainment cargo during sea-based operations, operations in degraded and/or austere ports, and bare-beach, Joint logistics over-the-shore operations. The MCS is comprised of the MWT, Causeway Ferry (CF), Floating Causeway (FC), and Roll-on/Roll-off Discharge Facility (RRDF). The MWT, LIN W41775, is used to assist in the assembly, movement, and positioning of non-powered modules, strings, sections, FC, and RRDF to set and retrieve anchor moorings for FC and other weight handling and towing tasks. It consists of one powered section with the application of a Warping Tug (WT) conversion kit, consisting of a diesel-hydraulic deck winch, foundation adapter, a weight-handling A-frame forward, a self-deploying/retrievable stern anchor to assist in beach retraction/salvage, and required above deck equipment.
