- Description
- UMBC Services required to update operational rapid transmittance algorithm (RTA) and associated full spectral resolution coefficients for the CrlS instrument to support off line algorithm testing and preparation for retrievals within the NOAA/NESDIS CrlS /ATMS Product System (NUCAPS). · Update the Radiative Transfer Algorithm (RTA) for all the Cross-track Infrared Sounder (CrIS) channels, including the two guard band channel (total of 2211 + 12 channels). This RTA will maintain consistency with the forward model that support the CrIS, Atmospheric Infrared Sounder (AIRS) and the Infrared Atmospheric Sounding Interferometer (IASI) operational products at NOAA. These include non-LTE correction and variability for all trace gases in the AIRS RTA (ozone, carbon dioxide, carbon monoxide, methane, nitric acid, nitrous ozide, and sulfur dioxide). In addition, the UMBC algorithm includes a number of fixed gases (e.g., chlorofluorocarbons) that are not included in other models. We expect this RTA to be updated with any changes made to the CrIS instrument or products, such as apodization function, channel centers, or ILS shape. That is, this RTA should be as close to the launch configuration of CrIS as possible. · The delivered RTA(s) under this task must be compatible with the methodology and spectroscopy developed for the current CrIS, AIRS and IASI RTA’s and be suitable for design and development of the full spectral resolution CrIS product systems. This means that the file format of the coefficients and fitting functions used in the RTA code must be reasonably close to the expectation of what is currently being used with the CrIS processing. The RTA will be developed in three phases: using full resolution Suomi-NPOESS Prepatory Project CrIS radiances, J1 CrIS vacuum test data, and J1 CrIS measurements.
