- Description
- The US Army Medical Research Acquistion Activity (USAMRAA) intends to issue six Research and Development (R&D) contracts on behalf of the US Army Medical Research Institute of Chemical Defense (USAMRICD) located at Aberdeen Proving Ground, Maryland. The six contracts are in support of the National Institutes of Health (NIH) Chemical Defense Program. This sources sought provides program information for entities that may be interested in partnering with the Government researchers in support of an Inter-Agency Agreement (IAA). The overall goal of the NIH Chemical Defense Program is to reduce the mortality and morbidity during and after civilian emergency events involoving the release of chemical threat agents. Chemical threat agents are toxic checmials that could cause mass casualties after being released by a deliberate terrorist attack, or by industrial accident or natureal disaster. The purpose of the IAA's between NIH, through the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID), and the US Army Medical Research and Material Command (USAMRMC) is to fostor and support the development of therapeutics that could be submitted for approval and licenser by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and can be used effectively to treat individuals during a civilian chemical emergency event. Under the NIAID/USAMRICD IAA, the following six proposals were seleceted for funding, to be administered in coordination with USAMRICD collaborators. These proposals support the Countermeasures Aganist Chemical Threat Programs. Additional information in Counter ACT researchers and projects, and IAA's between NIH and the Department of Defense may be viewed at the following website: https://www.ninds.nih.gov/research/counterterrorism/counterACT _researchers_projects.htm. The following titles have been selected for the immediate selection of research: Evaluation of Novel Anticonvulsants to Treat Nerve Agent - and Pesticide Inducted Seizures and Prevent Brain Damage in Pediatric Rats; Rat Models of Organophostphate and Nerve Agent Intoxocation to Evaluate Delayed Treatment with Novel Anticonvulsants; Vesicant and Toxic Industrial Chemical Ocular Injury; High Throughout Screening Approaches to Identify Therapeutic Targets and Understand Mechanisms of Injury; Development of a Cyanide Sensor and Analytical Assay for Cyanide and its Countermeasure; and two were chosen for Evaluation of DMTS as a Treatment for Cyanide Toxicity in a Swine Model. This is not a request for quotes or capability statements. Please see the above hyperlink for future opportunities in supporting this research program.
