Description
Background Information Sandia National Laboratories has made an initial investment in technologies for call dual mode readout of radiation sensitive materials. These can be scintillators which drift charge efficiently and produce light or viewed as semiconductors which scintillate. Xenon is an example of a material in this class. We are looking for industrial partners with proven experience in the design, manufacture and development of radiation sensing instruments as partners in development of pixelated or voxelatted sensors with improved performance that would benefit from dual-mode collection of signal in the area of particle tracking devices or improved resolution. Opportunity Description The objective of this collaboration would be the joint development and demonstration of a full scale prototype, moving the technology from Technology Readiness Level (TRL 2 to TRL 6 or 7, as defined by the U.S. Department of Energy. Collaborators will work with SNL on the continued development and testing of technologies and will provide a clear path to commercialization/deployment of the technology. Response Requirements Qualified respondents will contribute resources (minimum $25k), funds for subject matter specialists (as needed), and in-kind support in the form of staff and facilities capable of handling, processing, and packaging. Qualified respondents will have the option to obtain, up to and including, an exclusive license to the intellectual property for reasonable compensation as part of the agreement. Responses should meet the DOE requirement of enhancement or accrual of economic and technological benefits to the U.S. domestic economy through the technology transfer. Sandia gives preference to a U.S. firm able to enter into a CRADA agreement with SNL to develop specific manufacturing tools and techniques for fabrication with semiconductors of density greater than 4 g/cc or hydrogen containing materials of high density that operate at room temperature with low dark current. Interested parties that meet the requirements provided in this announcement are invited to respond to this FBO. Any information provided in response to this FBO will not be returned. Any and all responses are voluntary and SNL will not pay for any information submitted in response to this FBO. Only electronic submissions will be accepted. Responses should be emailed to msderzo@sandia.gov and should include the FBO title and submitting organization's name in the subject line. Attachment size should not exceed 5MB and only the following document types will be accepted (.doc,.docx,.pdf). Responses should be submitted electronically no later than 5:00 p.m. MDT on 2/8/17.
