Description
10Kg Contained Detonation Test Chamber Request for Proposal, FA2487-17-R-0131 The Department of the Air Force invites your company to submit a proposal for the Air Force Research Laboratory's Munitions Directorate's (AFRL/RW) design, fabrication, testing, and installation of a large 10 kg (net explosive weight) contained detonation chamber inside room 115 at the Building for Initiation and Reactive Systems Science and Technology (BIRSST) located at Eglin Air Force Base, Florida. The BIRSST is a new explosive test facility currently under design as part of the Advanced Munitions Technology Complex (AMTC) Military Construction (MILCON) project within the ordnance division of the Air Force Research Laboratory's Munitions Directorate (AFRL/RW). The BIRSST will be located in the AMTC complex on the main base at Eglin AFB, FL. The 10 kg chamber will be installed in the BIRSST during the final construction phase of the building due to its anticipated size and weight. The primary mission of the contained detonation chamber is to enable repetitive, safe, well-controlled experiments detonating high explosives with trinitrotoluene (TNT) equivalence up to 10 kg. The 10 kg contained detonation chamber is intended to enable scientists and engineers to conduct precision experiments utilizing instrumentation in close proximity to detonating high explosives under test without endangering personnel or damaging equipment outside the chamber. The 10 kg chamber will also allow researchers to carefully control the environment in which experiments are conducted. Important alternate environments where experiments may be conducted inside the 10 kg contained detonation chamber include vacuum environments, non-ambient temperature environments, and reduced oxygen environments. Communications between the Government and Industry regarding this solicitation should now be addressed only through the Contracting Officer (CO), Mr. Erik Urban at (850) 882-5261 or erik.urban@us.af.mil. Final RFP is attached as: Request for Proposal (RFP) FA2487-17-R-0131 Offerors are advised to keep note of the following timeline: No later than 17 August 2017, 1 pm (Central Time) - Offerors shall submit their Questions for Request for Proposal, FA2487-17-R-0131. No later than 18 September 2017, 1 pm (Central Time) Request for Proposal for FA2487-17-R-0131 closes.
