- Description
- Q&A Amendment Q1) Can we use client's caging if needed? A1) Yes, the client's caging can be used if needed. However the vendor will have to have the appropriate equipment to clean the caging properly; assumption is the vendor has a cage-washer. We would prefer if the vendor has caging to supplement our donated caging. Q2) Can we get further clarification on what is required for the Blood Transfusion in sedated NHP, possibly some examples? A2) Blood taken from a fully sedated donor animal (previously typed for cross-match) from a (maximum of 12.5% blood every 30 days) is combined with 10% citrate, rocked, and kept on ice during transport to USUHS. The blood is then irradiated with 2500 cGy utilizing the Walter Reed Hospital irradiator. Blood donor animals will have a CBC done prior to donation to confirm the absence of anemia. Whole blood will be transfused if PLT counts are less than 20,000/uL and hemoglobin concentrations are less than 7g/dL or the hematocrit is less than 20%. Packed RBCs will be administered in preference to whole blood if platelet counts are greater or equal to 100,000/uL with no signs of clinical bleeding. Blood will be transfused into the fully sedated recipient (previously blood typed) via a blood infusion pump (syringe type) or manually via syringe and infusion set through the cephalic vein, saphenous vein, or some other peripheral vessel. Animals will be visualized during and after the process for presence of a infusion reaction. Q3) What is the typical duration of a primate study? A3) The typical duration for any cohort of a primate study is 60-90 days. Q4) Are attachments acceptable on this proposal? A4) yes as long as you stay within stated page limitations This amendment also extends the due date for quotes. Quote packages are due by 5:00 p.m. Eastern Local Time on 29 August 2017.
