Description
Wire Rope Tow Haulage Unit Scope of Work For Wire Rope for Tow Haulage Unit 1. SCOPE Contractor shall provide all materials, labor, supervision, and quality control necessary to manufacture and deliver wire rope for tow haulage unit. 2. SPECIFICATION Furnish the following amount of wire rope as specified. 3.1 Qty. 3 spools - 2000ft. each 3/4in. 6x37 flattened strand Right Lang Lay (RLL), Extra Improved Plow (XIP), special hoisting rope with hemp center Each wire rope shall be 6x37 flattened strand RLL, Extra Improved Plow Steel Grade (XIP) with an Independent wire rope core (IWRC). The diameter of the rope shall be 5/8 inches, having a tolerance of minus 5 percent. The wire ropes shall have a Right Hand Lang Lay (RLL). 3.2 Qty. 1 spool - 2000ft. 3/4in. 6x30 flattened strand XIP, Independent Wire Rope Core (IWRC) RLL Qty. 1 spool - 1500ft. 3/4in. 6x30 flattened strand XIP, IWRC RLL Each wire rope shall be 6x30 flattened strand RLL, Extra Improved Plow Steel Grade (XIP) with an independent wire rope core (IWRC). The diameter of the rope shall be ¾ inches, having a tolerance of plus or minus 5 percent. The wire rope shall have a Right Hand Lang Lay (RLL). 3.3 Qty. 1 spool - 2000ft. 5/8in. 6x37 flattened strand RLL, XIP, special hoisting rope with hemp center Qty. 2 spools - 1500ft. 5/8in. 6x37 flattened strand RLL, XIP, special hoisting rope with hemp center Each wire rope shall be 6x37 flattened strand RLL, Extra Improved Plow Steel Grade (XIP), special rope with hemp center. The diameter shall be 5/8 inches, having tolerance of plus or minus 5 percent. 3.4 Qty. 1 spool - 1500ft. 3/8in. 6x37 flattened strand RLL, XIP, special hoisting rope with hemp center Wire rope shall be 6x37 flattened strand RLL, Extra Improved Plow Steel Grade (XIP), special rope with hemp center. The diameter shall be 5/8 inches, having tolerance of plus or minus 5 percent. 3. CERTIFICATION, TESTING & INSPECTION Provide wire rope which is the standard product of a manufacturer regularly engaged in the manufacture of wire rope, and that essentially duplicate products having been in satisfactory used for at least 5 years. 3.1 Steel shall be milled within the borders of the United States of America, using only domestic construction materials in accordance with the Federal Acquisition Regulation (FAR), Subpart 25.6. Steel shall be certified for material composition and mill. 3.2 Wire rope shall be factory inspected to ensure that it is free from defects. Documentation showing all factory tests and inspections shall be supplied to the Government prior to shipment. 3.2.1 Pre-Stretching Pre-stretch the wire rope. Test shall consist of three cycles at 40 percent of its nominal strength. Hold the 40 percent loads for 5 minutes with 5 percent loads for 5 minutes between cycles. A method of dynamic pre-stretching may be proposed. 3.2.2 Wire Strength and Ductility Perform testing in accordance with Federal Specifications (FS), RR-W-410 to verify wire strength and ductility. 3.2.3 Weld Distribution Wire joints in any strand must not be closer than 18 inches in any strand. 3.2.4 Strand Pitch Length Not be less than 4-1/2 times the nominal rope diameter. 3.2.5 Core Strand Wires The number of wires in the core strand must be equal to or greater than the number of wires in the other strands. Use the same material as the wires in the other strands, or use a material with a lower tensile strength. 3.2.6 Tension Testing Submit rope tension test report to the government no later than 3 calendar days after test is complete. Perform a tension test to verify the wire rope meets the accepted industry standards for nominal strength. Test two rope samples to failure to be sure the expected performance level has been met. Perform the test using suitable tension testing equipment and by qualified personnel. Submit certification of rope tension testing device. Cut the rope samples to no less than 3 feet of length. The test will not be considered valid if the failure occurs less than 2 inches from either socket or holding mechanism. Relative speed between the machine heads must not exceed 1 inch per minute. 4. SHIPMENT 4.1 PACKAGING & PROTECTION All material shall be packaged in a manner acceptable to preserve the new condition of the material during shipping and handling. The packaging shall clearly identify the contents and weight of the package. Wind the wire rope onto spools in the same direction as they were bent during manufacturing. Damaged material will not be accepted by the government. All damaged materials shall be replaced by the contractor with no additional cost to the Government. All transportation, delivery, and storage costs shall be included in the contract price. 4.2 DELIVERY Contractor shall contact the Facility Manager, Donald Dean, at (256)-247-3311 no later than 7 calendar days prior to the delivery of any materials. Delivery shall be made Monday through Thursday, 0700 - 1600 Central Time excluding federally observed holidays. US Army Corps of Engineers Gerald Choat- Lockmaster 704 S. Damaged material will not be accepted and it will be the responsibility of the contractor to replace any damaged items at no additional cost to the Government. WARRANTY Submit signed copies or the manufacturer's warranty of a one (1) year warranty for all materials provided under this section. 6. Contract Employees. All contract employees and subcontractors shall conduct themselves in a proper manner at all times. No alcoholic or intoxicating beverages or substances or illegal drugs or controlled substances not prescribed by a physician shall be possessed, consumed, or be under the influence of any such substance while on Government property. The Contractor shall remove from the site any individual whose continued employment is deemed by the appointed receiving agent to be contrary to the public interest or inconsistent with the best interests of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. The Contracting Officer or the appointed receiving agent will require the Contractor to immediately remove from the work site anyone who is incompetent or who endangers persons or property or whose physical or mental condition is such that it would impair the employee's ability to satisfactorily perform the work. Notification to the Contractor will be made in writing if time and circumstances permit. Otherwise, notification will be verbal and will be confirmed in writing as soon as possible. No such removal, however, will reduce the Contractor's obligation to perform all work required under this contract and immediate replacement shall be made as required.
