Description
The 2010 floods affected approximately 5,000 schools in Sindh of which approximately 2,500 schools were completely destroyed. This natural catastrophe hindered the education of thousands of children in Sindh and other parts of Pakistan. In order to improve access to and quality of education in flood-affected districts and to restore public confidence in the public education system, USAID/Pakistan is supporting the Provincial Government of Sindh (GoS) in the construction of new facilities to replace fully damaged schools in Eight (8) priority districts and Karachi in support of GoS Policy reforms to merge, consolidate, and upgrade schools. The USAID-supported construction will ensure that all newly constructed facilities replacing flood affected schools are child friendly and provide an environment conducive to both learning and teaching. On September 21, 2011, USAID/Pakistan signed an Activity Agreement with the GoS for the Sindh Basic Education Program (SBEP) to improve the quality and access to education for children in vulnerable communities of Sindh through an integrated program increasing and sustaining student enrolment at the primary, middle and secondary levels in schools. The program aims to reach 1.2 million children in the target locations. Under the construction component of SBEP, USAID/Pakistan is supporting the construction of up to 111 new schools in eight (8) priority districts of Northern Sindh (Sukkur, Khairpur, Jacobabad,, Larkana, Kashmore, Qamber-Shahdadkot, Dadu and Shikarpur) and five (5) selected towns of Karachi (Gadap, Lyari, Orangi, Kemari and Bin Qasim). To ensure that construction meets the required quality standards and as per the design and technical specifications, USAID/Pakistan is seeking for a local Architect-Engineer (A-E) firm to perform Third Party Milestone Monitoring Services for Construction of Schools under SBEP. The services will be required from August 1, 2018 for a period of approximately 26 months.
