Description

Technical services to operate, maintain, and repair the Research Vessel (R/V) Acoustic Explorer (A/X) for the Sonobuoy Quality Assurance Program (SQAP). Operationally, the typical SQAP deployment schedule is ten (10) deployment days per month. Contracted services provided during SQAP deployments, along with crew support for the vessel include the following: the provision of environmental conditions prior to, during and after each test, analysis of test sample air flight and water entry geometry; deployment, activation, and recovery of the vessel underwater sound source; recovery and evaluation of failed test samples; and, in the absence of a deployment aircraft, the operational setting and deployment of test samples. Routine and unscheduled maintenance, aboard the steel hulled vessel, is accomplished continuously both in-port and at sea. Efforts include, but are not limited to the preparation and preservation of all steel structures; scheduled maintenance of all weight handling equipment to ensure safe and reliable operation; routine maintenance of all propulsion and power generation systems; inspection and certification, as necessary, of all firefighting, weight handling, and lifesaving equipment; and inspection, operation and troubleshooting of all communication, surveillance, and navigation systems.
