- Description
- Revision 1 to SLS EUS Engines RFI The purpose of this amendment is to post Revision 1 of the SLS Exploration Upper Stage Engines RFI. The changes made are as follows: Cover Page: Reflects “Revision 1” and date of the revision Page 2: Under “Background”, paragraph 2, last 2 sentences were revised. Page 3: Under “Background”, paragraph 3, sentences 2 and 4 were revised. Page 3: Under “Engine Description”, 1 st and last sentences were revised. Pages 3-4: Under “Requested Response Topics” new paragraphs 2-4 were added before the paragraph that begins with “Comments are requested but not limited to…”. Page 4: The last paragraph on this page was revised to add “herein and” before each reference to Appendix A. Page 6: The response due date is revised to December 15, 2017. Appendix A: Appendix A.1 was deleted and Appendix A.2 was moved to A.1. Responses to this RFI are intended to provide input for an examination into the potential for developing and using low cost alternate engines that meet stage interfaces and launch vehicle performance requirements. NASA desires a low cost drop-in replacement engine to minimize program cost and schedule impacts of EUS and launch vehicle redesigns required to accommodate different engine interfaces or performance. The replacement EUSE shall minimize development time for an engine and reduce manufacturing/production costs while still meeting NASA programmatic, technical, design, construction, and workmanship approaches and standards for human rating. The initial set of four engines will be needed in mid-2023 subsequent to the SLS EM-3 flight. Full flight certification and vehicle integration must be complete prior to mid-2023. The purpose of this RFI is to identify the potential providers that can deliver a mature and readily available engine and meet the requirements as described in the attachment document. Submittals are due from all interested parties by 2:00 p.m. (central), December 15, 2017, to NASA/MSFC Office of Procurement, Attn: PS42/Vanessa Turner, Contracting Officer, Marshall Space Flight Center, AL 35812 or via e-mail at vanessa.turner@nasa.gov and cc: Jennifer McCaghren at jennifer.b.mccaghren@nasa.gov. Currently, no solicitation exists; therefore, do not request a copy of the solicitation. If a solicitation is released, it shall be synopsized on the NASA Acquisition Internet Service and on FedBizOpps.gov. This RFI synopsis is not to be construed as a commitment or obligation by the Government, nor shall the Government pay for the information submitted in response. Respondents shall not be notified of the results. All responses should be provided in MS Word document format via electronic media. Font should be Times New Roman, size 12. Responses should not exceed 10 pages. Text provided on both sides of a page will be counted as two pages. The cover page is excluded from the page count. Provide name of submitter and contact information (Company Name, Location, Contact Name, Phone Number and Email Address) on the cover page.
