Description
REQUIREMENTS DOCUMENT/SPECIFICATIONS TITLE: Antenna Positioning Hexapod Robot LAB REQUESTING SERVICE: Communications Technology Laboratory, Communications Test Coordination Office (670.02) I.BACKGROUND INFORMATION The National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) Communications Technology Laboratory (CTL) is developing antenna metrology techniques for the next generation of wireless networks. CTL's antenna metrology laboratory plans to extend near-field techniques to accommodate metrology of the antennas for the upcoming 5G networks. Accurate antenna positioning hardware is required, specifically a six-axis positioning hexapod robotic system. This system will be used to position antennas under test in support of advanced communications, 5G, and over the air testing methods. The ability to have precise, accurate and dynamic parallel control of the position of the antennas under test along all 6 degrees of freedom will allow for the positioning accuracy and resolution required for these antenna measurements. II.SCOPE OF WORK The antenna metrology laboratory seeks a hexapod capable of 6 degrees of freedom positioning. This hexapod must have the specifications stated in section III which satisfy the technical and safety aspects of this work. III.SPECIFICATIONS The Contractor shall supply a hexapod that meets the following specifications: 1.Hexapod must have absolute encoders. 2.Hexapod contoller must have at least two additional motion axis availble for auxilary motion devices. 3.Hand controller option for hexapod. 4.Hexpaod must be able to be located variable disabnces away from the controller by using different cable lengths. 5.Control cable with option for either lengthening or shortening cable length any where from 3 meters to 20 meters. 6.Controller interface options must include EtherCat, RS-232, TCP/IP. 7.Controller must have an on board clock for coordinating automation. 8.Hexapod horizontal load capacity of 50 kg. 9.Load capacity in any orientation other than horizonal of 20 kg. 10.X-axis and Y-axis travel of at least +/- 50 mm and Z-axis travel of at least +/-25 mm. 11.Angular travel about the X-axis and Y-axis of at least +/- 15 degrees and at least +/-30 degrees of angular travel about the Z-axis. 12.Minimum incremental motion of 1 micron or better. 13.Repeatability of +/- 1 micron or better. 14.Be able to define a virtual pivot point in space. 15.It must be programable. 16.Cannot be constructed using springs for actuation or to provide tension to hexapod actuators. 17.Have a flat machined mounting base with an extent of at least 300mm. 18.Have a flat machined mounting surface with an extent of at least 200mm. 19.Have actuators that can maintain holding force when hexapod is powered off. 20.Be able to be oriented upside down, vertical or horizontal and still operate. IV.DELIVERY: No later than 24 weeks after receipt of order. V.ACCEPTANCE/INSPECTION Upon receipt and prior to final payment, NIST personnel will verify the hexapod performs as expected. VI.WARRANTY: Standard manufacturer's warranty. VII.GOVERNMENT FURNISHED PROPERTY: Not applicable.
