- Description
- The Department has revised the RFI to extend the due date for responses by one week to 10:00am on 3 April 2018. Cybersecurity is a rapidly changing and expanding field. This expansion requires a cadre of skilled workers to help the U.S. Department of Education (Department) perform cybersecurity functions. As the Department identifies what is needed to adequately manage current and future cybersecurity risk, the cybersecurity workforce capabilities and capacity needs must be accessed. The Department needs to execute on a series of tasks that will ultimately lead to the identification of the cybersecurity workforce, update positions descriptions (PD's) to capture the work employees should be doing as well as develop PD's for future workforce needs. Additionally, the Department needs to assess and document the current resources and skill gaps and develop training plans for the Department as a whole and for those individuals who will be doing the work. The Department will use the NIST 800-181, National Initiative for Cybersecurity Education (NICE) Cybersecurity Workforce Framework, to examine specific IT, cybersecurity, and cyber-related work roles, identify cybersecurity workforce gaps, identify personnel skills gaps, and establish processes to prioritize which gaps to close. The Department needs to develop a detailed long-term cybersecurity workforce plan that includes a strategy for talent development and staff retention as well as for recruitment of needed staff. The purpose of this Request for Information (RFI) is to understand how the need can be satisfied and what should be considered so as to ensure that the outcome is effective. Please see the attached document for the Department's RFI questions and instructions. Please respond by the date listed on this sources sought. The Department appreciates your organization taking the time to review and respond to this RFI. 3/21/2018 - The Department has extended the due date for this RFI by one week to 10:00am on 3 April 2018.
