- Description
- 4873712 Sources Sought - Procurement of a Digitizer and an Amplifier The purpose of this order is to purchase an amplifier and digitizer for the synaptic plasticity section within the National Institute on Drug Abuse (NIDA). The amplifier and digitizer will be used to advance our understanding of the cellular and molecular interactions that underlie the function of neurons and glial cells during physiological states and pathological conditions, such as reward, motivated behaviors, addiction, neurodegeneration. More specifically, this equipment will be used to as integral components of an inverted microscope electrophysiology set-up for recording in isolated cells. The current setups are limited to electrophysiology in brain slices, which does not allow for high through-put screening of electrophysiological parameters between normal and pathological conditions or drug testing, allowing us to answer critical questions about ion channel and receptor function, that were not previously possible for our branch to answer. We want to determine the neural mechanisms in the brain that mediate drug craving and other animal behavior models of drug addiction. The microscope system is primarily for the synaptic plasticity section; however it can be shared as needed with other NIDA labs. Our section does not have an inverted microscope electrophysiology set-up, which is most commonly used for recordings from isolated or cultured cells. Currently, we are traveling to NINDS to use a similar set-up. It has become clear that we cannot do our required research without this equipment and a number of users and projects would greatly benefit from this equipment within NIDA. Additionally, we chose an amplifier and digitizer that are compatible with a wide-range of uses. Based on the lifetime of previous electrophysiology set-ups, there is no reason to expect that this equipment will not perform for the next thirty years.
