Description
Immunoassay reagents for molecular blood testing, Department of Pathology and Area Laboratory Services, Bayne-Jones Army Community Hospital, Fort Polk, LA. Immunoassay reagents measure the concentration of molecules in a solution through the use of an antibody/immunoglobuin. Examples of Immunoassay tests include pregnancy, CK-MB for heart disease, insulin to assess hypoglycemia, and a specific antigen for prostate cancer. Reason for Authority Cited: A previous award was placed IAW FAR 13 procedures to Ortho-Clinical Diagnostics, Inc. A five (5) month bridge contract with the incumbent was issued to on 1 July 2017 to ensure DPALS testing services without interruption. This bridge contract expires on 30 November 2017. A long term solution has been solicited and is currently in source selection. A new bridge is necessary to ensure that Fort Polk does not experience any interruptions in testing. Any new equipment proposed by a vendor other than Ortho-Clinical would require existing equipment used by the lab to be re-calibrated, etc., and/or validated, causing a disruption to clinical operations. DPALS offers Clinical Pathology, Anatomic Pathology, and Support services; education to the BAMC community; and, serves as consultant for the Southern Regional Medical Command and other DoD medical treatment facilities worldwide. To ensure the continuation of the DPALS' mission without interruption, a new 3-month bridge with a period of performance to begin 1 Dec 2017 to 28 Feb 2018, plus a two (2) one month option (thru 30 Apr 2018) is requested
