- Description
- Source Qualification Statement Prequalification Notice for C-5 Pressure Divider NSN: 4820-01-452-8261 AMSC C: These parts require engineering source approval by the control activity to assure the integrity of the part. An alternative source must qualify according to the design control activity's procedures as approved by the applicable government engineering activity, AFLCMC/WLSEAB (C-5 Galaxy Division) SECTION A: ITEM IDENTIFICATION Stock Number (NSN) Part Number Nomenclature 4820-01-452-8261 200913886-10 Pressure Divider SECTION B: JUSTIFICATION FOR ESTABLISHING A QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENT The "Pressure Divider" is part of the hydraulic manifold assembly that controls the C-5 Pitch Trim Actuator's Nut Drive Motor. The Pitch Trim Actuator positions the entire horizontal stabilizer assembly for pitch trim of the C-5 aircraft. Manufacture of parts for C-5 hydraulic manifolds requires strict control of processes to ensure adherence to very close tolerances during machining of specified material. Special machining equipment is required to produce the precisely manufactured part surfaces. Consistent manufacturing processes are necessary to ensure that the manifold components are manufactured such that the Pitch Trim Actuator assembly provides precise control of the horizontal stabilizer incidence during flight. Failure of the Pitch Trim Actuator to position the horizontal stabilizer could place the aircraft and crew in an extremely hazardous situation due to the pilots being unable to properly trim the aircraft for its flight condition, resulting in very heavy forces being required of the pilots to maintain level flight. Flight safety histories indicate that aircrew task saturation as a result of component failures dramatically increases the risk of an aircraft mishap if they occur in critical phases of flight. If the failure occurs under these conditions there is a risk of loss of life and/or aircraft. SECTION E: GOVERNMENT CONTACT The Government Point of Contact for the technical requirements specified for qualification is Drew Hyatt, AFLCMC/WLSEAB, andrew.hyatt.9@us.af.mil. Responses must be received no later than close of business September 13, 2018. Responses must be sent electronically via AMRDEC SAFE ( https://safe.amrdec.army.mil/safe/ ) to: •· Randy Miller ( randy.miller.22@us.af.mi l ) •· Drew Hyatt ( andrew.hyatt.9@us.af.mil ) •· Jim Palmer ( james.palmer.11@us.af.mil ) See attached Source Qualification Statement for additional information.
