- Description
- FDA-SOL-18-1206563 The Food and Drug administration requires 5 add-on modules for a COMSOL Multiphysics Named Single User License: CFD (for modeling fluid dynamics), Corrosion (for modeling electro-chemistry and charged-species transport), Structural Mechanics (for modeling of linear materials like metals), Nonlinear Structural Mechanics (for modeling nonlinear materials like polymers), and Fatigue (for modeling fatigue-life of materials). These modules improve the functionality of COMSOL Multiphysics and incorporate functionalities that are necessary for the development of appropriate computational models for multiple active projects within the Division of Biology, Chemistry, & Materials Science. These projects include Nickel Release and Toxicity under Physiological Conditions, Toxicological Risk Assessment of Device Color Additives, Impact of Surface-Texturing on Breast Implant Associated-Anaplastic Large Cell Lymphoma, and Biocompatability Assessment of Bioabsorbable Materials. The required modules will provide the capability to model complex multiphysics scenarios that the base COMSOL Multiphysics software cannot, such as modeling the mechanical environment involving fluid-solid interaction between a non-Newtonian Fluid (CFD) and a non-linear material (Structural and Nonlinear Structural Mechanics) necessary for the Breast Implant Associated- Anaplastic Large Cell Lymphoma project or release and distribution of Nickel ions (Corrosion) due to mechanical loading (Structural and Nonlinear Structural Mechanics) for the Nickel Release and Toxicity project.
