Description
Survivability and Protection Symposium-Visitor Information TARDEC SURVIVABILITY & PROTECTION 2018 The United States Army Tank Automotive Research, Development and Engineering Center (TARDEC) will host "Survivability & Protection 2018", a training symposium, at Fort Benning in Columbus, Georgia November 6-7, 2018. Attendance is limited to those persons who (i) are U.S. citizens, and who (ii) hold a current security clearance. Schedule: The classified training symposium will commence the morning of November 6 with an Army Threat Analysis and Situational Briefings delivered by invited Senior Level Officers and Officials from multiple commands throughout the Department of Defense. Speakers will deliver peer-reviewed technical training presentations followed by moderated discussions beginning after lunch on the 6thand continuing all day on the 7th. Tasks: Provide classified technical training in current survivability technologies to Army technologists and acquisition professionals to ensure that the Army is specifying, developing and acquiring the best available survivability solutions for the ground force. Conditions: This training event will include classified content that will be delivered by technical subject matter experts (SME's) in concurrent training sessions held in a classroom environment at the Fort Benning Maneuver Battle Lab training facility. The training content will be delivered by lecture followed by a moderated technical discussion on the topic of instruction. The lecture materials are peer-reviewed technical presentations that will be electronically published in a Symposium Proceedings on the Defense Technical Information Center's classified Research and Engineering Gateway. Standards: Participants will be able to recognize potential applications of what they have learned per the individual training session learning objectives with the overall intent of advancing their individual and organizational mission and goals across all ground systems survivability topic areas. Training Sessions/Technical Paper Categories (four categories, as identified below): Prevent -- The "Prevent" training session will address technical challenges in areas that prevent enemy threats from affecting U.S. ground vehicles, including early enemy threat identification and obscuring blue force vehicles from enemy threats. Topics of interest include, but are not limited to, discussions on the following technologies: • Pre-shot detection sensor performance, algorithms, integration and M&S • Signature management techniques, materials and M&S • Decoys • Hostile fire detection (HFD) sensor performance, algorithms, integration and M&S • Laser warning receiver sensor performance, algorithms, integration and M&S Preempt -- The "Preempt" training session will focus on technologies that employ countermeasures to interfere with the guidance mechanisms or the operator of susceptible threats, causing them to miss the protected vehicle. Topics of interest include, but are not limited to, discussions on the following technologies that attempt to disengage the enemy threat: • Obscurants • Electronic Warfare devices Defeat/Disrupt -- The "Defeat/Disrupt" training session will address technical challenges in areas that defeat and/or disrupt enemy threats from affecting U.S. ground vehicles, including the fundamental threat-countermeasure terminal interaction. Topics of interest include, but are not limited to, discussions on the following technologies: • Armor Materials and Mechanisms i. Opaque ii. Transparent • Vehicle Structures • Interiors i. Seating ii. Restraints iii. Flooring iv. Spall Liners v. AFES vi. Energetic Material Compartmentalization Measures • Hard-Kill Countermeasures i. Ballistic ii. Blast Novel Concepts -- The "Novel" training session will address novel technologies that are being developed and investigated that are relevant to U.S. ground vehicles including novel energy absorption methods, modular controllers, bioengineering, and occupant centric protection test methods. Topics of interest include, but are not limited to, discussions on the following technologies: • Future armor protection schemes of vehicles • Sensor and eye protection against lasers • Modular controllers for holistic active defense • Technologies to measure blast effects on humans • Light weighting strategies Registration Information: • Register Now through October 3, 2018 • The Attendee Registration Site: https://einvitations.afit.edu/inv/anim.cfm?i=417073&k=066045097C54 • Register for the No-host Social on Tuesday, November 6, at http://www.cvent.com/d/fbqjr4. • This is a classified training symposium, so after registering, participants must contact their security office and process clearances through the Joint Personnel Adjudication System (JPAS).
