Description

This is the solicitation for the Capital Security Program project for the U.S. Courthouse and Post Office in Texarkana, AR and Texarkana, TX. The Texarkana Beaux Arts style post office and courthouse is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. The building was built in 1933 using limestone and granite. There are six stories, and each floor contains approximately 16,800 gross square feet. The primary tenants are the U.S. Courts and Courts-related agencies, and the U.S. Postal Service. This building is unique in that the Arkansas and Texas state line bisects the center of the building. Therefore, half of the assets reside in Texas, and the other half in Arkansas. As such, it serves two different districts for the U.S. Courts. The courthouse is nearly fully occupied with only 7% (4,325 useable square feet) indicated as vacant space. The project includes numerous building improvements and alterations related to security efficiencies in and around the building as follows: new judges indoor parking and elevator, new prisoner vehicle sally port, new elevator for prisoner transport, a guard station (1st floor, building main entry lobby), new office space on the 1st floor, revised secure circulation on upper floors, new loading dock and new emergency generator. The design is complete; this contract will include only construction services.
