- Sources Sought for Custom Gelato Casing REQUEST FOR INFORMATION The National Gallery of Art is issuing this Sources Sought Notice as a means to conduct market research to identify vendors interested in and resources to provide services as identified herein. THIS IS A SOURCES SOUGHT NOTICE ONLY. This is not a request for offers, quotes or proposals. This notice does not represent a commitment by the Gallery to issue a solicitation or award a contract. This is a market research tool only to determine the capability of potential sources. BACKGROUND The mission of the National Gallery of Art is to serve the United States of America in a national role by preserving, collecting, exhibiting, and fostering the understanding of works of art at the highest possible museum and scholarly standards. The National Gallery of Art is located at 6th Street and Constitution Avenue, NW Washington D.C. The Cascade Café restaurant is located in the underground Connecting Link of the Gallery, under the 4th street plaza. The Cascade Cafe has an Espresso & Gelato bar, which was built in 1998 by an Italian company Ceredar Anito SRL. The Gelato case was custom built as a semicircle shape installed at the end, connecting at two (2) straight sections of the bar at both ends. Please see photos and the drawings, section titled Photos and Existing Drawings. The semicircle case was divided into four (4) separate sections. Each section has its own refrigeration circuit. Two (2) sections were installed with freezer circuits for the gelato display and two (2) other sections were installed with refrigerated circuits for sandwiches and drinks display. In the last several years, the Gallery has experienced components failures in the refrigeration systems and was unable to acquire replacement parts. As a result four refrigeration circuits in the cases have been running inefficiently resulting in costly maintenance and operation of the Espresso & Gelato bar. The Expresso & Gelato Bar is open to the public from 10:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday to Saturday and 11:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Sunday. Some work may require to take place during non-public hours to avoid interruption to the restaurant business. Construction partition is required to avoid unnecessary public attention. REQUEST The Gallery is seeking a qualified contractor who has experience with curved gelato cases to assist the Gallery with replacing the old case with multiple new case(s), including the refrigeration systems and its control, and the millwork to maintain the current aesthetic of the gelato bar. ROUGH ORDER OF MAGNITUDE Provide information about your typical approach, its timeframe in weeks, and approximate total cost. Include any associated cost to repair the existing unit.
