Description
The Parasitology Department of the U.S. Naval Medical and Research Unit No. 6 (NAMRU-6) in Lima, Peru is seeking to obtain Plasmodium vivax (causative agent of malaria) proteins. These proteins are produced using the Wheat germ expression system, which has been validated by us and others to be a reliable means of protein production that yields consistent and high quality proteins. These proteins will be used to support our funded work which aims to screen novel vaccine targets (proteins) for development of vaccines and monoclonal antibodies against P. vivax. Producing malaria proteins is notoriously difficult and our collaborators at Ehime University in Japan have worked closely with us to produce these proteins at small scales here at NAMRU-6 using CellFree Sciences Wheat Germ reagents. As we currently need to scale up our protein stocks and prepare to screen human-isolated cells for monoclonal antibody development against 15 of these proteins, we no longer have the personnel to conduct this work. Therefore, our collaborators in Japan have offered to perform the same techniques taught to us, which they have also validated for these proteins using CellFree Sciences reagents. CellFree Sciences is a leader of wheat germ production and developer of the method. Furthermore, CellFree Sciences has shown to be a reliable supplier of wheat germ reagents to us and our collaborators for the production of malaria proteins. As described above, this process is sensitive to changes in reagents and processes. Having a single source for these materials will allow consistency between our prior production lots and future lots in addition to control over cold chain during shipment and ensure accuracy and results consistency.
