Description
Cryo electron microscopy requires uninterrupted access to liquid nitrogen for instrument cooling and sample refrigeration. Liquid nitrogen is delivered in commercial tanks to room B211. However, building 37 has access to liquid nitrogen storage (outside building 37) that already supplies a large number of cryogenic tanks that hold cell and tissue samples. This in-house liquid nitrogen supply could be used if NCI had a tank filling station that allowed it to re-fill a suitable tank. NCI proposes to have a filling station installed in order to save costs (purchase price of liquid nitrogen, filling service and tank rental fees) and more importantly insulate NCI from interruptions in delivery in cases of holidays, weekends or vendor issues. Liquid Nitrogen Filling Station Salient Characteristics: Pressure sensor and electronic valve controls to fill liquid nitrogen into 240L tanks. Must fill liquid nitrogen tank at minimum pressure of 22 psig. Must be fully compatible with NCIs existing transfer lines in building 37 to provide insulation and prevent nitrogen from leaking. Automatic shut-off when filling is complete. Automatic pressure sensor and control prevent over pressuring the tank to meet the safety and hazard regulation. Cryogenic venting pipe 180 long from the filling station to outside bulk tank area to allow for proper venting to meet NIH building safety regulation. Cryogenic specialized transfer connection with a half-inch valve in order to connect to existing piping system a connector will be installed to divert cryogenic gas/liquid supply from the existing piping system to the autofill system control. Installation: Must provide proof of previous installation of a liquid nitrogen filling station. Install the autofill system control onto a wall in freezer farm B112. Install a transfer connector from the existing delivery pipe to the system control. Install a vent pipe outside to the nitrogen storage bulk tank area. Drill a hole in the wall to pass the vent pipe to outside the building. Install device without interruption to avoid diminishing the performance of the current nitrogen distribution during normal operations. DELIVERY / INSTALLATION: Delivery address: 37 Convent Dr. Rm B112, Bethesda MD 20892. Point of contact: Dr. Rick K. Huang, 240-760-7201 It shall be delivered within 120 days of the purchase order award. A minimum 12-month manufacturer warranty must be included Shipping/Handling costs must be included in the quote. NCI will not beresponsible in the event charges are not included in the quote. Installation charges must be included in the quote. Note: NCI plans to award a contract that has FOB origin delivery terms.
