The projects are located throughout Puerto Rico. This is not a solicitation for proposals and no contract shall be awarded from this notice. PROJECTS TO BE DISCUSSED ARE: Rio Puerto Nuevo The project will provide protection to 7,000 residential structures, 800 commercial and public structures, 1.5 square miles of major port facilities, recreation facilities, government offices, a major electrical power plant, and several wastewater/water treatment facilities in the metro area of Puerto Rico. The plan of improvement includes construction of 1.7 miles of earth lined channel, 9.5 miles of concrete lined channels, 2 debris basins, 2 stilling basins, 5 new bridges, replacement of 17 bridges, modification of 8 existing bridges, and mitigation for the loss of environmental habitats. Rio de La Plata The project will provide protection to the towns of Dorado, Toa Baja, Toa Alta, Levittown, and the communities of Mameyal, Ingenio, Campanilla and San Jose. The plan of improvement includes construction of 7.0 miles of channel improvements, 7.6 miles of levees, scour protection of three bridges, recreation facilities and mitigation for the loss of environmental habitats. Rio Grande de Arecibo The project will provide protection to the town of Arecibo, and the community of Los Canos. The plan of improvement includes three flood control elements, a floodwall and 2 miles of levee along the Arecibo River, a plug and channel diversion of 2.2 miles on the Santiago River, 3800 L.F. of levee along the left bank of the Tanama River, a rubble-mound breakwater extending seaward from the Victor Rojas Avenue Bridge and mitigation for the loss of environmental habitats. Rio Grande de Loiza The Rio Grande de Loiza basin, the island's largest, is located just east of San Juan and covers approximately 310 square miles. The flood risk reduction project is located in the cities of Gurabo and Caguas. Almost 5,000 families are affected by flash floods, as well as hundreds of commercial structures and public facilities. The authorized recommended plan of improvement includes channelization of Rio Bairoa ad Rio Caguitas, and levees along the Rio Grande de Loiza and Rio Gurabo to protect urbanized areas. Rio Guanajibo at Mayaguez The Ro Guanajibo basin is located in southwest Puerto Rico and includes portions of six municipalities with a total population of over 225,000. The drainage area is 140 square miles. Flooding is a serious threat to life and property in the towns of San German, Hormigueros and Mayaguez. The recommended project includes a channel plan with a 10-year level of protection at San German in the upper basin and a system of levees that will provide 100-year protection for the urban areas at Hormigueros and Mayaguez in the lower basin. Rio Nigua at Salinas The Ro Nigua basin is located on the south coast of Puerto Rico approximately 25 miles east of Ponce. Floods from this river affect a significant portion of the town of Salinas and the communities of El Coco, and Playa de Salinas. Portions of Camp Santiago, a military installation used for training and U.S. Navy communications facilities are also located within this flood plain. About 4,200 acres of land are flooded by the 100 year event. Over 3,000 families and numerous public buildings and facilities are subject to flooding. The recommended plan includes a 5.0 kilometer levee to protect the El Coco community and a 3.1 kilometer levee/floodwall system to protect the town of Salinas and Playa de Salinas area. The latter portion of the project also includes protection of PR Hwy 1 Bridge and local channel realignment.
