Background/Overview: The Center for Infectious Diseases Research, Malaria Biologics Branch (MBB) at the Walter Reed Army Institute of Research (WRAIR), integrates a broad, translational approach spanning discovery science to field efficacy trials. Our mission is to develop new biologics in collaboration with global and U.S. government partners to reliably prevent malaria infection in military personnel and at the same time, improving on global health. This research requires robust, reproducible and accurate analysis of protein, lipid, and virus-like nanoparticle platforms. A particle analyzer will allow assessement of product batch to batch variability and the monitoring of a final product stability. The nanoparticle analyzer currently in use by the Malaria Biologics Branch is the Malvern Panalytical Zetasizer Nano S. Having standardized equipment that provides the most advanced capabilities in particle size, size distribution, zeta potential, and particle concentration are essential to the Branchs ability to develop biologics and vaccines through controlled experimentation. WRAIR MBB is seeking to purchase the Zetasizer Ultra from Malvern Panalytical. Malvern Panalytical is the sole distributer of the Zetasizer Ultra, and its software and technology is compatible with the instrumentation already in use. We provide specific requirements within Attachment 2.
