This is a Sources Sought Notice and is for INFORMATION PURPOSES ONLY. This IS NOT a REQUEST for PROPOSALS, QUOTATIONS, or BIDS. Responses to this request will not be returned. Not responding to this sources sought does not preclude participation in any future and potential solicitation. It is the intent of the Contracting Office to use this information for market research purposes only. The survey is being conducted to determine the interest of industry within # 336611- Ship Building and Repairing and establish that there are adequate Large and/or Small Business (HUBZONE 8(a) or Service Disabled Veteran Owned Small Business) contractors for providing the equipment sought. The Government WILL NOT pay for the provision of any information, nor will it compensate any respondents for the development of any such information. If a formal solicitation is released, it will be via the Federal Business Opportunities (http:www.fbo.gov). The Olmsted Locks & Dam is a wicket dam located at mile 964.4 of the Ohio River in Pulaski County, Illinois. The Louisville District of the Corps of Engineers intends to procure equipment that will aid in the clearing out of an underwater concrete trench situated in front of the Olmsted Wicket Dam. The trench is 2.86 ft. deep, with a width of 4.21 ft. at the top and 1.73 ft. at the bottom. The river current deposits soil and debris in the trench, filling it and creating a pinch point so that the wickets cannot be lifted from their downstream end. The material in the trench is usually a fine soil, with small rocks and branches occasionally mixed in. The river depth for trench clearing operations will be 20 - 27 ft. from the top of the trench to the surface of the water. The river current typically has a maximum velocity of (5 fps ) and a minimum of (2 fps). Currently, divers clear the trench with (4) pneumatic lift tubes before the dam is lifted. The clearing operation takes about (8 min) per wicket. The equipment should be able to clear a width of one wicket (10ft) of the filled trench in (8 min) minutes or less. The ultimate goal is to clean the entire trench (1400ft) in 10 hours or less. The system cannot damage the concrete trench or wickets. No divers are to be used in the new trench clearing method. Please see attached diagram of the trench for further information on trench shape and dimensions, and attached sediment sizes chart for further information on the soil in the trench. The Government is issuing this Request for Information (RFI) to identify resources available to provide equipment. The equipment to be provided shall have the following features: Able to clear trench of soil and debris without damaging the concrete bottom or sides. Able to clear trench of soil and debris without the use of divers. Trench clearing rate of about 10 ft per 8 minutes. All interested parties responding to this RFI shall provide the following information on: Proposed equipment to be used for cleaning out the trench. Expected delivery date (months) to the Government of the proposed equipment after receipt of order (ARO) from the Government.
