Description

The Biomedical Prevention Advisor acts as a technical advisor to USAID/Lesotho on established or emerging biomedical interventions designed to prevent the transmission of HIV/AIDS. These interventions include, but are not limited to, voluntary medical male circumcision (VMMC - boys 15+), pre- and post-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) and (PEP), and microbicides. He/she tracks other relevant biomedical research activities supported by USAID in Lesotho and other emerging high impact; evidence based biomedical interventions. The Biomedical Prevention Advisor provides strategic guidance to USAID and the broader USG PEPFAR Lesotho Team, as well as to partners on implementation of PEPFAR Guidance for the VMMC and prevention of sexually transmitted HIV infections. While the incumbent also serves as a subject matter expert for PrEP and PEP, testing within each program area and other key biomedical prevention tools (e.g. microbicides, the HPV vaccine), the 2 most critical focal areas of this position are PrEP and VMMC.� The Biomedical prevention advisor also takes the lead on reporting adverse events within the VMMC program, to Washington DC as per PEPFAR policy.� Additionally, the advisor will manage the prevention and HTS portions of the key population portfolio.
