Description

The Fluorescent Penetrant Inspection (FPI) unit is a type Non-Destructive Testing (NDT) equipment used to inspect parts for flaws. The FPI unit can be utilized on a wide variety of non-porous materials sustained by the Air Force. FPI works through the application of a dye, which fluoresces (emits light) when exposed to Ultraviolet A (UV-A) light, and indicates when there is a flaw in a part. The dye collects in cracks or other flawed areas on the surface of the part being inspected. Since the dye concentrates in the flawed area, the flawed area glows brighter when exposed to ultraviolet light giving an indication of the nature of the flaw. Personnel inspecting the part can determine the type and nature of the flaw. FPI is used to inspect both new parts prior to acceptance, and parts that have been repaired in a wide variety of industries. This is a 5-year (1 basic and 4 option years) requirements type contract. BEQ is 24 each per year.
