Description
Background The UK Clinical Practice Research Datalink (CPRD) is the worlds largest longitudinal database of primary care medical records containing 13 million individuals (5 million of them are active patients), contributing 1.5 billion clinical records, and more than 1 billion therapy records. The age, gender, and death rate distribution of the CPRD population is similar to that of the UK general population, minimizing selection bias and maximizing results generalizability. In contrast to other large registry databases available to DCEG investigators, the collected information in CPRD was not intended for medical billing purposes but for detailed clinical epidemiological investigation. Specifically, CPRD data contain clinical diagnoses, patient lifestyle factors, results of diagnostic testing, specialist referrals, and prescription information; additional information can be collected through physician questionnaires. The data is currently linkable to other population-based registries, including the National Cancer Intelligence Network, the UK Hospital Episode Statistics, Death Registration, and Patient and Practice-based Deprivation Data. Academic institutions in the UK and across the world, in addition to regulatory agencies including the FDA have used CPRD for their research. Studies using CRPD have resulted in more than 1000 peer-reviewed publications between 1988 and the end of 2013 with a continuous rising trend in the last 4 years. Since 2015, the NCI has executed several contractual agreements with CPRD with the latest being (HHSN261201700038P). This allowed investigators in the Division of Cancer Epidemiology and Genetics access to this rich data resource. Currently more than 10 investigators in DCEG are using this resource. Objective The purpose of the current procurement is to pay for a 12 months license access to the following datasets: UK CPRD primary care databases (Gold and Aurum) NHS digital datasets (Hospital Episode Statistics (HES) Admitted Patient Care (HES APC), HES Outpatient, and Death Registration data from the Office for National Statistics (ONS) Small area level dataset (Index of Multiple Deprivation; IMD). And pay for study-based access to the PHE cancer registry database and other linkages that are not covered by a CPRD license, as needed. SCOPE CPRD will provide 12 months unlimited access to the datasets identified above and needed services for linking datasets to the CPRD Primary Care database on an individual patient level; and to PHE cancer registry data and other linkages per study need. CONTRACTOR REQUIREMENTS The Contractor shall perform the following tasks: Provide NCI with a 12 months full access license to the databases identified above Provide necessary service for linking different datasets to datasets to the CPRD Primary Care database on an individual patient level. Provide access to other linkage databases per study need. Provide necessary training and data-related documentations to NCI, as needed throughout the contract period. Provide epidemiological support for data users. Provide day-to-day troubleshooting for technical problems related to data access. Facilitate linkage to other UK resources.
