- Description
- Page 1 of 1 The Department of Veterans Affairs, Iowa City VA Medical Center, intends to negotiate on a sole source basis, pursuant to FAR 6.302-1, for the Stoelting Rat OptoDrum. This device is designed to assess visual acuity and contrast sensitivity in larger rodents like rats. This assay can be used to determine the effect of a treatment on the overall function of the visual system, which is the goal of our translational research for treatment of Veterans. Current rodent research is currently being performed on site with mice stoelting device and it is scientifically important the same platform is used that results within the same disease models, but between species, can be compared and to maintain research integrity of results. Additionally, no other equipment has a front door load which is required as this research will utilize rats that have hind limb paralysis because of Multiple Sclerosis and tail grabbing is not an option to set a MS rat on the platform. Tail grabbing significantly increases stress levels in rodents with MS what can influence visual acuity. This is a notice of intent is not a request for competitive proposals; however, any responsible source who believes it is capable of meeting the requirement may submit a capability statement to the contracting office no later than Friday, August 7th, 4pm, EST. Interest/capability statements may be sent to Lynn Portman at lynn.portman@va.gov. No telephone responses will be accepted. A determination not to compete the proposed requirement based upon the responses to this notice is solely within the discretion of the Government.
