- Description
- Statement of Work On May 21st, 2020 flooding in Grouse Creek washed out FSR #280. Emergency work was performed to divert Grouse Creek and reestablish the road. Now that the water level has come down Grouse creek needs to be repaired and the streambank needs to be improved to withstand high flows in the future. The rehabilitation work will take three days to complete. The work is necessary to prevent resource damage to Grouse Creek that is highly likely when the rainy season ensues in November. The diversion levee is made from unconsolidated stream cobbles and will not withstand a 15-20 year recurrence flood event which is common in this watershed. In addition, the diversion channel was not constructed to reliably handle the volume of water that washed out the road. If a similar event created the discharge that washed out the road on May 21st, the diversion levee will fail and possibly result in another washout of the road. The probability of this type of event occurring next winter and washing out the road is high. The road stands a better chance if the main stream channel is recontoured to its former channel dimension and the repaired streambank is fortified to withstand high flows. Major tasks Fortify reconstructed streambank (130). 10-15 rootwads 50 CY streambed material 6 hours excavator time Reshape main channel (400). 10 rootwads 6 hours excavator time Remove diversion levee (400). 4 hours excavator time Reshape point bar and disperse LWD (300). 4 hours excavator time 10 hours of excavator time is allotted for collection and transport of rootwads, cleanup, and sundry items.
