- Description
- OEM technicians shall performed inspection and maintenance on the USS Milwaukee Stern Door. As a result, the technician discovered that starboard side stern door does not fully close due to multiple components that are severely degraded. In order to restore the Stern Door to its optimal condition, technicians recommended the following. 1. Remove Stern doors from the ship and conduct complete preservation of interior and exterior side of door. 2. Replace deflected overhead door frame. 3. Remove, fit and install new the following parts; a) Coaming, Stern Door: (APL: 31A120213) (Part Number: F143221) b) Bearing: (Part Number: GM3832-0047 c) Kit, Seal (Part Number: SK2520) (NIIN: 9B-01-616-7917) d) Seal Nonmetallic Special Shaped Section (Part Number: F143859) (NIIN: 9B-01-617-1970) The Stern Door and Ramp is a closed watertight structure at the rear of the ship with low radar cross-section stern doors and an associated stern ramp that provides positive buoyancy. The major components of the Stern Door and Ramp are the Main Door Assembly, the Main Ramp Assembly, the Main Hydraulic Power Unit (HPU) Assembly, and the Door, Ramp, and Coaming Seal. The Door, Ramp, and Coaming Seal is the main rubber seal around the periphery that excludes the ingress of water due to wake, wave slap, and spray. In its current condition the capabilities and rated output will not meet, the standards set by DON Sea Systems Command S9169-BG-MMC-010 Table 1-1. This will severely affect the operational readiness of the ship as it will constrict one of the 3 mission profiles of the ship and that is the Watercraft Launch, Recovery, Handling and Stowage System.
