- Description
- This is a combined synopsis/solicitation for commercial items prepared in accordance with the format in Subpart 12.6 as supplemented with additional information included in this notice. This announcement constitutes the only solicitation; proposals are being requested and a written solicitation will not be issued. Background: The National Institutes of Health (NIH), a part of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, is the nations medical research agency. The mission of NIH is to make important discoveries that improve health and save lives. Within NIH, the National Institute of Arthritis, Musculoskeletal, and Skin Diseases aims at supporting research into the causes, treatment, and prevention of arthritis and musculoskeletal and skin diseases, the training of basic and clinical scientists to carry out this research, and the dissemination of information on research progress in these diseases. The mission of the Light Imaging Section, Office of Science & Technology of NIAMS is to give NIAMS users access to state-of-the-art imaging equipment and support them at all stages of the imaging experiments. One fundamental component of the imaging process is the post-acquisition analysis of microscopy images. Immunofluorescence quantitation, object tracing, pixel reassignment and image deconvolution, analysis of colocalization are all crucial factors that come into play when a microscopy image has to be published on a competitive high-impact factor scientific journal. Currently, the Light Imaging Section does not offer NIAMS users a software package that allows a comprehensive and detailed analysis of images acquired on any of the facility microscopes. The acquisition of a robust and complete software package license is therefore pivotal for the Light Imaging Section to guarantee NIAMS users a solid and exhaustive approach towards the various aspects of image processing.
