- Background The International Logistics (IL) group at the United States Postal Service (herein after �USPS� or �Postal Service�) is responsible for the transportation and performance of international mail originating in the US via air, surface, and maritime. In carrying out this mission, the Postal Service seeks to identify and evaluate solutions for its maritime operations that would improve international service, control costs, and increase operational efficiency. Currently, the Postal Service is seeking information on maritime solution to more than 90 country/destinations around the world from the following originating points: New York/New Jersey, Los Angeles/Long Beach, Chicago, and Miami. Origins and Destinations can be found in �Attachment A, Pickup & Dropoff Locations.� Purpose The purpose of this document is to request information from ocean transportation suppliers. This information may be used to improve service continuity throughout the Postal Service�s global network. Specifically, and in accordance with its Supplying Principles and Practices, the Postal Service issues this Request for Information (RFI) as an invitation for interested parties in providing their logistics experience and industry expertise regarding maritime solutions, which will aid the Postal Service in achieving the following objectives: Optimize operational efficiency Lower transportation costs Strengthen mail transportation resiliency Scope The Postal Service is looking to gain insight on maritime solution to and from more than 90 countries. The Postal Service�s international mail volume is made up of distinct product offerings that require varying speeds of transportation, and international mail volume is currently transported by air, surface, and maritime. Responses to this RFI may be considered within the scope of Postal Service�s efforts to improve international mail services for its maritime operations with ocean transportation suppliers. Please refer to the attachments for the full details of this RFI.
