Description
A. Introduction: USAID/Eswatini implements a comprehensive portfolio of activities under PEPFAR. USAID/Eswatinis PEPFAR program supports the Government of the Kingdom of Eswatini (GKoE) in its response to the HIV epidemic, specifically to scale up strategic testing and case identification, treatment, adherence and retention interventions, and to prevent HIV transmission and acquisition. Eswatini became the first country in the world to achieve the UNAIDS 95-95-95 milestones for epidemic control but continues to strive extending to reach across all age and sex bands and risk populations. USAID supports the development of a robust sustainability plan to ensure the country maintains the gains that have been achieved. In FY21, USAID/Eswatini manages a portfolio of more than $40 million through nine implementers/mechanisms. USAID/Eswatini supports public health facilities in two regions, Hhohho and Shiselweni, with technical assistance and mentoring for care and treatment and biomedical prevention, including Pre-Exposure Prophylaxis (PrEP) and Voluntary Male Circumcision (VMMC). USAID funded partners also provide comprehensive clinical and prevention services at the community level across the country, including leading the PEPFAR DREAMS prevention program for adolescent girls and young women, and USG investments to mitigate the impact of HIV on Orphans and Vulnerable Children. USAID/Eswatini strengthens government systems for commodity management and supply chain and supports the Ministry of Health with its electronic medical record system. USAID/Eswatini also works with traditional and community leaders to anchor community ownership of the HIV response. USAID/Eswatini works in partnership with other USG agencies under the PEPFAR umbrella, including the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), the Department of Defense (DoD) and Peace Corps. The program works cross-sectorally in partnership with several ministries and agencies including the National Emergency Response Council on HIV and AIDS, Ministry of Health, Deputy Prime Ministers Office, Ministry of Finance and Ministry of Education. USAID/Eswatini currently has 14 staff and operates under USAIDs Regional Health Office (RHO), formerly the Regional HIV/AIDS Program, part of the Regional USAID/Southern Africa Mission based in Pretoria, South Africa. This position will be based in USAID/Eswatinis in-country office located at the US Embassy in Ezulwini.
