Description
GEC STRUCTURAL GEOLOGIC MODELING SOFTWARE The purpose of this sources sought is to determine the availability and capability of interested businesses to provide 3D MODELING SOFTWARE This notice is being posted for fact finding and planning purposes only and shall NOT be construed as an Invitation for Bid, a Request for Proposal, Solicitation, Request for Quotes, or an indication the Government will contract for the items or services herein. Responses to this source sought will be used by the Government to make appropriate acquisition decisions. Responses to this sources sought synopsis are not considered adequate responses to the solicitation announcement. All interested offerors will have to respond to the solicitation announcement in addition to responding to this sources sought announcement. This notice is not to be construed as a commitment on the part of the Government to award a contract, nor does the Government intend to pay for any information submitted as a result of this notice. The Government does not reimburse respondents for any cost associated with submission of the information being requested or reimburse expenses incurred to interested parties for responses to this source sought. Any response received will not be used as a proposal. The NAICS code is 511210 size standard $41.5 Million. All firms interested in this sources sought must be registered with or have the ability to register with the System for Award Management (SAM), in order to receive a Federal contract award. To register, go to the SAM Internetaddress at http://www.sam.gov. Failure to register may render the offeror ineligible for award of a contract. Three-dimensional (3D) structural geological modeling builds volumetric (3D) digital models of subsurface geology based on input data, and then extends that capability using analytical tools to evaluate the geometric validity of the subsurface interpretations based on published structural geology concepts. Like many advanced 3D modeling software, structural geological modeling software is required to ingest, process, and interpolate various geologic input data including boreholes, gridded surfaces, XYZ point data, and cross section data and the software includes integrated 3D model visualization attained by combining all of the geoscience data and models into a common, geo-referenced 3D environment. The capabilities of structural geological modeling software surpass those of general advanced 3D modeling software through the use of kinematic algorithm tools to build, balance, restore, and analyze geologic cross-sections at a local and regional scales. Kinematic algorithms are based on published structural geology concepts, including block restoration, flexural-slip folding, simple-shear folding, trishear folding, fault-bend folding, and depth-to-detachment constructions. The combined modeling and kinematic analysis software platform is distinct from (1) software that allows for visualization of 3D data, but not model creation; (2) GIS mapping software that is primarily geared toward 2D data and cartographic representation; or (3) software capable of building volumetric 3D geological models but incapable of kinematic analysis or geometric reconstruction. 1. Import and integrate a wide variety of data types including: digital field data, digital elevation models, seismic data, well and borehole data, geological maps, annotated field images, scanned cross-sections, remotely sensed data, ASCII, GIS shapefile and DXF files. 2. Quickly create maps and cross-sections, and 3D models in fully geo-referenced space, using automated and manual digitization tools, with ability for real-time updating. 3. Create 3D surfaces, shapes and volumes from a wide variety of data types. 4. Create and slice 2D sections at any angle and orientation through 3D models. 5. Display and analyze borehole data efficiently. 6. Test and validate structural geological interpretations and produce balanced cross sections. 7. Include kinematic algorithm tools to build, balance, restore and analyze geologic cross-sections at a local and regional scales. 8. Include backstripping techniques to account for sediment compaction, thermal subsidence, and isostasy. Capability and Technical Experience - Interested parties should submit capability statement describing adequate training and experience in scientific and technical appropriateness in reference to the potential work to be performed. Please include company name, address, telephone number, point of contact with an email address, business size, DUNS number, SAM Registration number, Federal CAGE code, general description of the company, how long the company has been in business and a description of similar contracts with the government and/or commercial customers (include points of contact, contract numbers, value and contract type). The point of contact is Timothy Bertsch; e-mail tbertsch@usgs.gov. USGS makes no implied or in fact contract by issuing this Sources Sought announcement. Acknowledgement of receipt of responses will not be made, nor will respondents be notified of the USGS's view of the information received. Material that requires a non-disclosure agreement or that may be business sensitive will not be accepted. Please note that responses to this notice will not be returned.
