KBL conducts small boat science surveys in support of NCCOS coastal ecosystem and climate change studies, and for oceanographic surveys under the Gulf Watch Alaska ecosystem monitoring program funded by the Exxon Valdez Oil Spill Trustee Council. KBL also operates small boats between the laboratory and Homer to support facility operations. KBL small boats have gasoline engines.
