- The United States Department of Agriculture (USDA), Animal Plant Health Inspection Services (APHIS), National Veterinary Services Laboratories (NVSL) Diagnostics & Biologics (D&B) program, in Ames, IA intends to award a sole source Purchase Order to Thermo Fisher Scientific (dba, Applied Biosystems) located in Carlsbad, CA, MA for 50 (each) MagMAX� CORE Nucleic Acid Purification Kits used to purify DNA or RNA. �This purchase will be conducted under the authority of FAR 13.106(b)(1)(i) to support the emergency control of an African Swine Fever outbreak in the Dominican Republic. �Applied Biosystems is the reagent manufacturer and supplier for this purchase. Only limited market research for alternatives has been completed at this time. Due to the urgent nature of this high consequence pathogen detection, rapid procurement is needed to support the initial expanded emergency testing of host nation livestock. The Applied Biosystems MagMAX� CORE Nucleic Acid Purification Kits work well with the sequencing equipment the NVSL uses to ensure the success of African Swine Fever detection in collected samples.� The overall mission of NVSL programs is to protect U.S. agriculture by blocking and limiting the spread of foreign pathogens when outbreaks occur.
