Lamps for Insect Sampling The Grand Canyon Monitoring and Research Center collects data on aquatic insects to inform resource managers on the health of the Colorado River. This project started in 2012 and uses fluorescent bulbs that emit mixed white and black light [EIKO light bulbs - Model F4T5/BL]. The existing portable lamps that are available cannot withstand the extreme heat and vibration that happen during Grand Canyon river trips; existing lamps break frequently resulting in lost data. Existing lamps use 4 AA batteries that only last 4 hours before a noticeable loss in brightness, which results in large quantities of battery waste. We seek a contractor that can provide a portable and durable lamp that can power our desired light bulb. Required Specifications: Must work with F4T5/BL lightbulb Must be waterproof Must be resistant to sand, extreme heat, and vibrations/shaking which happens during downstream navigation in whitewater rapids Size approximately 17 cm long to balance across the shorter distance on top of the sampling tray (17 x 28 cm opening and 7 cm deep) Desire a rechargeable battery that can last a minimum of 30 hours when powering the bulb
