- Description
- Optical Fiber Component Fabrication System Independent movement control parallel to the fiber axis (z-axis) of the following elements: left fiber holder, right fiber holder, heat source and imaging system Sufficient Z-axis travel to create tapers up to 250mm in length. X-Y adjustability for both left and right fiber with resolution of at least 500 nm Both pitch and yaw automated adjustability for both left and right fiber. Full 360 degree, multi-turn rotation capability for both left and right fiber. Side-view core imaging and end-view imaging. Independent movement control parallel to fiber axis (z-axis) of integrated cleaver. Tension measurement for taper process control and cleave tensioning. Embedded control system for developing and implementing process algorithms. Capable of operating system with fiber parallel to gravity or perpendicular to gravity. Fiber bundling tooling for high-count, tubeless combiner fabrication. Automatic image processing based fiber alignment for X, Y, pitch and yaw. Taper and draw fibers and bundles of up to 4mm diameter. Fused Biconical Tapers (FBTs) and WDM fabrication with automatic active feedback. Long Period Grating fabrication. Taper Profile Measurement. Splice and thermal diffusion. PCF optimized splice processes. End-cap optimized splice processes using direct end-face heating. Fiber bundling, fusion, tapering, cleaving and splicing for high-count combiner fabrication. Cladding Light Stripper (CLS) fabrication of lengths up to 120mm. General machining of an optical fiber (tapers, notches, flats, rings, etc.) including radially symmetric machining with respect to fiber axis Cleave process with typical end face flatness of less than 2 fringes on 400?m fiber (0.09 degrees). Clean heat source that will not leave any detectable surface deposits
